In the MLB postseason, teams have to be ready to adjust on the fly. This is doubly true for do-or-die elimination games, such as Friday night’s decisive Game 5 between the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers.

In a game where one run might decide the difference between your season ending and your quest for the World Series carrying on, a team might have to pinch run for a better player than you normally would, or bring in a starting pitcher out of the bullpen to keep the game going, or any number of other bold strategies we only see in the playoffs.

And sometimes, in extreme circumstances, you have to let the loser fish win the mascot race.

The Mariners have hosted the Salmon Run—a mascot race around the warning track—at every home game at T-Mobile Park since the start of the 2024 season. Like many mascot races, the Salmon Run includes a lovable loser, who earns their status as a crowd favorite despite never coming in first. In Seattle, that’s Humpy.

As Friday’s game carried into the 14th inning, someone high atop the production team made a call—there would be a second “Salmon Run.” And this time, Humpy would win.

With the initial Salmon Run taking place before the game went to extras, it was decided that a second race would be run in the middle of the 15th inning, at which point the game was still tied 2–2 with the Mariners up to bat.

Despite falling behind early, the other salmon contenders ran into each other late, and Humpy was able to sneak through for their first ever victory. The crowd was electric.

Less than 10 minutes later, the Mariners would finally score the walk-off run that sent them to the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2001.

Obviously, it’s the players on the field that deserve the most credit for the win, but I do think it’s worth shouting out Humpy and whatever production staff was behind the decision to run a second race.

Before Humpy’s victory, things at T-Mobile Park were . The Mariners had gotten runners in scoring position several times in extra innings, but never able to bring them home. The ballpark was still packed despite the game nearly entering its sixth hour.

When you have a loser in the mascot race and you want them to win, you can only fire that bullet once, but given the circumstances, there was simply no better time for the Mariners’ stadium ops team to pull the trigger. The result was an explosion of joy across the tens of thousands of fans at T-Mobile Park, which also served as a collective exhale after two hours of baseball that were as edge-of-your-seat as the sport can get.

The gambit worked. Humpy and the Mariners left Friday’s game as winners. Who doesn’t love an underdog story?

Madueke was the star for Arsenal as they maintained their perfect record in the 2025-26 Champions League by beating Club Brugge 3-0. The Arsenal star lit up the Jan Breydel Stadium with a fantastic opening goal and then scored again early in the second period to double the visitors' advantage. Gabriel Martinelli went on to add a third for Mikel Arteta's side as Arsenal made it six wins from six in the Champions League so far this season. The Premier League leaders remain the only team in the competition with a 100 per cent record. Meanwhile, Madueke becomes the first player in Arsenal's history to score each of his first three goals for the club in the Champions League or European Cup.

Madueke enjoys 'sweet' strike

Madueke spoke about his goals after the game on : "The first goal was really nice, second a tap in but the first one was sweet. Delighted with the result. The bare minimum I need to give to my team is threat; they need to give the ball and feel that something can happen. Trying to score and be as decisive as possible is the next level I need to get to. I want to be consistently decisive for my club and my country. I think I can reach that level, so I'll keep working every day."

The forward also spoke about Arsenal's good form and their belief they can be crowned champions of Europe.

"We're tight, we want each other to do well. We have top players everywhere in the squad. It's about all of us a collective, not any individual. We know we all have a part to play, so that's a good thing about this team," he added.

"I feel like we can win this competition, I feel like we can win the league as well. That has to be our aim. We're in a good place at the moment, so we'll just keep going."

Arteta hails 'outstanding' Madueke

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was also impressed by Madueke's strike. He told : "Madueke and Martinelli were outstanding today, the level of threat and two finishes spectacular. Jesus back after 11 months, to see him perform in the manner he did was really positive.

"We know how difficult the Champions League is, and to win away from home especially with that many players out, it makes it bigger. Christian Norgaard is someone who probably prepares the best out of all of them. He is someone who makes all of us better every single day. He can play in any position, whether he plays more or less minutes his attitude is immaculate, a really good example for all of us.

"Right now it is about managing the situations we have in the backline, some players were there but could not play more than 45 or 30 minutes. To manage that has been tough. But with the attitude that the players have, I know that if I ask anyone to play there then they could do it, and they have done a great job."

Tottenham Hotspur’s activity in the transfer market over the summer was largely successful, with numerous of their additions already making a huge impact in the Premier League.

Mohammed Kudus was the most expensive addition during the recent window, joining the Lilywhites in a £55m transfer from London rivals West Ham United.

The Ghanaian has already adhered himself to the supporters, with his tally of one goal and four assists the highest tally of any player in Thomas Frank’s first-team squad.

However, not all of their big-money additions have hit the ground running in North London, with Xavi Simons only able to register a single league assist after his £52m switch from RB Leipzig.

At just 22, he will have bags of time to adapt to life in England’s top-flight, but the same can’t be said for another first-team member who will likely be on borrowed time in the near future.

The total cost of Spurs’ deal to land Richarlison

Back in the summer of 2022, Spurs paid a reported £60m for the signature of striker Richarlison, with the Brazilian moving to North London from fellow Premier League side Everton.

Many supporters were excited upon his arrival, no doubt due to the size of the fee, but it’s safe to say the 28-year-old’s spell at the club has been nothing be plain sailing.

During his three years with the Lilywhites, he’s racked up a total of 108 appearances across all competitions, but has only scored a total of 24 goals in such a period.

However, he’s also taken home a small fortune in wages, with his £90k-per-week wages seeing him earn a total of £18.72m in wages alone since his transfer.

When combining his transfer fee with his wages, Richarlison has cost the hierarchy a total of £78.72m – a simply staggering amount of money given his lack of impact.

Given his tally of 24 goals, he’s cost around £3.28m per effort – further highlighting how much money the board have wasted on his signature over the last few seasons.

The player who could end Richarlison’s Spurs career

The numbers behind Richarlison’s deal at Spurs are nothing short of mind-boggling, but his underlying stats from the current campaign further indicate his lack of positive impact.

The Brazilian has only scored four times in the Premier League to date, but he has missed six big chances in the process, which has no doubt hindered his ability to provide the goods.

He’s also registered the least amount of touches of any player on the pitch in four of his 11 league appearances, often being unable to make a real impact on proceedings.

When in possession, the 28-year-old has struggled to find a teammate, only completing 63% of his passes – a tally which ranks him in the bottom 12% of all players in the division.

His lack of quality, coupled with his staggering cost, should see the club look to move him on in the near future, with Frank desperately needing to drop him from his starting eleven.

However, that may be a tricky task given the recent injuries to Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani, but the Dane does have an excellent option in the form of Mathys Tel.

The Frenchman originally joined on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich last campaign, but he made such a move permanent in the summer – costing a fee in the region of £27m.

However, he’s found minutes hard to come by under Frank, with the 20-year-old only starting three matches out of a possible 11 in England’s top-flight to date.

Tel, who’s been labelled “one of the best finishers in Europe” by Ben Mattinson, has managed to impress despite his limited minutes, as seen by his tally of two goals.

Such a tally is all the more impressive when delving into his minute per goal ratio, with his 124-minute goalscoring record the best in the current squad in North London.

The youngster has also caught the eye with his dribble success, often taking the ball past the opposition and handing the side a more nimble and off-the-shoulder type of centre-forward.

Despite his small frame, Tel has managed to make a nuisance of numerous backlines, even impressing out of possession and winning the ball back 1.1 times per 90 in the final third – which places him in the 95th percentile.

There’s no disputing that Tel is still a young and raw talent, but he’s already demonstrated glimpses of his quality, which should see Frank hand the Frenchman a consistent run of starts.

As for Richarlison, he could find himself on the fringes in the coming months, with the hierarchy needing to cash in as soon as possible to avoid losing a small fortune on their investment.

Siraj went the whole Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on green surfaces without a five-for, but picked his first five-wicket haul in England on perhaps the flattest pitch India have encountered in the country this century. Morkel said it was just rewards for all the good bowling in the intervening matches between five-fors.”Siraj is a guy that I’ve got a lot of respect for,” Morkel said. “He’s a guy that always will push his body to the limits. I think sometimes the guilty part of him is trying too hard so for us. It’s about managing that sort of aggression and managing that intensity because he really bowls with his heart on his sleeve. I think sometimes those sort of things can give you that inconsistency.”In a match that he’s now the leader of the attack, he got the wickets, but for me in terms of effort and energy and with a sore body, he’s always done and will put his hand up, and he wants to bowl that over. I don’t think sometimes we give him enough credit for that.”Akash Deep’s line of attack, Morkel said, gave India the potency in brief windows of the new ball doing something. “He is an attacking bowler that asks questions, bowling at the stumps a lot,” Morkel said. “I think that’s one of the golden rules here in England: asking questions on the stumps. So for these sort of conditions in the UK, it suits his style. However, Morkel did say it was not going to be easy as the pitch has responded only to the new ball, and the older ball has gone dramatically soft. “Your skill really gets tested on a surface like that,” Morkel said. “The margin for error is a lot smaller. Obviously, that’s nipping around a little bit now, but it’s going to be a challenge for us tomorrow.”In the first innings, India – having taken five wickets already – tried to buy a wicket with the short ball telegraphed, but Morkel felt this pitch was more about testing the stumps and going short only as a surprise.”For me personally on this sort of surface, you want to set a field where you can still have both options: using the short ball and try and nick a guy off,” Morkel said. “I think at times when you get too predictable, it can be a little bit easier to score because the surface is slow. But remember both those batters are attacking batters. They were going to take it on, and credit to Shubman, he took a gamble there for a couple of overs to potentially get a wicket. England at the time was 80 for 5. So to chase another wicket there, there’s no harm in that.”I thought we moved slightly away from our plans in the first innings, and in a way also with runs on the board you want to go take a couple of more risks but tomorrow for us it’s just going to be asking those questions on a good length because we know as the ball gets a little bit softer it is harder to strike.”The ease with which India were batting in the third innings and still scoring at five an over led India to what many might think is a conservative declaration. Morkel said it was more about how much time they wanted to bowl for rather than being spooked by England’s approach of late.

المدرب البرتغالي ألكسندر سانتوس، المدير الفني لنادي الجيش الملكي، تحدث في تصريحات خاصة لـ”بطولات” عن قرعة دوري أبطال إفريقيا، مؤكدًا صعوبة المجموعة التي وقع فيها فريقه، لكنه أبدى تفاؤله بقدرة الجيش الملكي على المنافسة والتأهل إلى ربع النهائي.

وقال سانتوس: “القرعة دائمًا ما تكون صعبة، لأن كل الفرق التي يمكن أن تواجهنا قوية وتنتمي لأفضل أندية القارة، مجموعتنا تحديدًا صعبة جدًا ومليئة بالتحدي، لكنها في الوقت نفسه تنافسية للغاية”.

واختتم سانتوس حديثه قائلًا: “هدفنا الأساسي هو الوصول إلى الدور ربع النهائي من البطولة بعد مرحلة مجموعات ناجحة، كل الفرق تملك فرصًا متساوية، لكننا في الجيش الملكي نؤمن بقدرتنا على المنافسة وسنقاتل من أجل الفوز في كل مباراة”.

تحدث محمود الخطيب، رئيس مجلس إدارة النادي الأهلي، عن حالته الصحية، كما كشف أنه طلب الابتعاد عن إدارة الأهلي 3 مرات من قبل.

وقال الخطيب خلال تصريحات عبر برنامج “الصورة” المذاع على قناة “النهار”: “أنا في نعمة كبيرة جدًا، كانت في ظروف صحية من شهر 4 في 2023، وأجريت فحوصات، وكل 6 أشهر أعيد الفحوصات، شهر 10 أعدت الفحوصات وظهر أمر غير لطيف، ثم عدت إلى السعودية لأداء العمرة ثم علمت بوفاة العامري فاروق، والأطباء كانوا يقولون لي لا بد أن تبتعد عن الضغوطات، وأبلغت مجلس الإدارة، ولكن بعد وفاة العامري كان لا بد أن أستكمل مهامي”.

وتابع: “أجريت جراحة منذ فترة وكنت أعاني من ورم في المخ واتشال الحمد لله، أجريت 5 جراحات، أنا دخلت يوم 1-2-2012 غرفة العمليات الساعة 6 الصبح، نفس اليوم الذي أحدثت فيه أحداث بورسعيد”.

وأكمل: “آخر زيارة لي مع الطبيب، طلب مني أن أتوقف الآن بسبب حالتي الصحية، لذلك كانت أول مرة أفكر في حالتي الصحية قبل النادي، وأرجو الناس تسامحني، هذا لأول مرة من سنة 1971، لكن بعد ردود الأفعال التي حدثت أمر أسعدني، سمعت جملة بعد اتخاذي هذا القرار من الجمهور لا يا بيبو لا لا ملكش حق، نفس الجملة سمعتها يوم اعتزالي”.

وأردف: “أنا كنت أعمل من 8 لـ 12 ساعة، هذا الأمر لن أستطع أن أفعله مرة أخرى، أخذت القرار في العودة قبل الترشح من جديد بـ 48 ساعة، أنا طلبت الرحيل سنة 2023 وطلبته مرتين بعدها، وطلبت أن استريح، لكن كل مرة يحدث موقف يجعلني أتراجع”.

واستطرد: “أنا لا أخاف على الأهلي طالما الجمهور والأعضاء موجودين، منذ 1907 كل المسؤولين تغيروا والأهلي يسير، قلقي فقط أنني رأيت مشاعر لم أكن أتوقعها، شركات الأهلي كانت تكلمني كل يوم يحتاجوني في بعض الأمور، الطبيب قال لي لو استطعت أن تستمر في النادي كرمز، لكن لا بد من الاهتمام بصحتك”.

واستمر: “سأقوم بتوزيع الملفات على أعضاء مجلس الإدارة وياسين منصور وخالد مرتجي سيقومان بالمتابعة، وهذا أمر ضروري بالنسبة لي وأتمنى الالتزام به، شعارنها هو التنمية والاستثمار، التنمية تشمل كل شيء بشرية ورياضية ومالية، والاستثمار في كل شيء، لذلك كل الزملاء الذين تم اختيارهم على هذا الأساس”.

وأردف: “كان هناك أعضاء على استعداد إنهم يستمروا، عقدت معهم اجتماع وتحدثت معهم أنهم من الممكن أن يكون لهم أدوار ولكن من خارج مجلس الإدارة، وتفاجأت أنهم بيحبوا الأهلي أكثر من أنفسهم، ولم ينزعجوا أبدًا”.

وواصل: “ثقة الناس بي والتزكية ثقة تخوف وتقلقني جدًا، لذلك لا بد أن يفهم مجلس الإدارة أنه لا يوجد شيء اسمه تزكية، وإن شاء الله الجمعية العمومية تكتمل والناس كلها تشارك هذا أمر مهم لمسيرة الأهلي”.

وأتم حديثه: “لا أهتم باي انتقادات يتم توجيها ولا أستمع لها ولا أنظر لها، أرحب بالنقد وأهلًا وسهلًا لو كانت منطقية”.
