Rangers: Ianis Hagi fit to face Livingston

Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has revealed that Ianis Hagi is in contention to face Livingston tonight after returning from a viral infection.

What’s the latest?

The winger has been ruled out since the last international break, but McAllister has confirmed that the 22-year-old has looked sharp in training, whilst giving an overall injury update.

He told the Glasgow Times: “Ianis is back and trained, he looked pretty sharp. Ryan Kent will be missing. Patterson has had an ankle issue recently but he trained and looked sharp today.

“Ryan Jack is still missing and working hard to get back to full fitness.”

Fans will be buzzing

Rangers fans will be buzzing with this update as it suggests that Hagi could be in with a shot at starting, or at least featuring, against Livingston tonight. His last appearance for the club came at the end of August in a 4-2 win over Ross County, with supporters potentially excited to see him back in action after a month out.

The Romania international has two goals and one assist in six competitive appearances this term, having managed seven goals and 11 assists in the Premiership last season. This shows that he has the quality to score and set up goals on a regular basis, which could provide Rangers with the spark they have been missing of late.

His manager Steven Gerrard, who previously dubbed Hagi an “outstanding talent”, has seen his side score just once in their last two outings. This suggests that they have been lacking in the final third, which is where the 22-year-old could come in and solve a glaring problem for the Gers. He has proven that he can contribute in key moments since the start of last season and could provide that quality now that he has returned to fitness.

Fans will surely be buzzing to see the mercurial gem back in the starting XI and gaining some valuable minutes against Livingston in the League Cup. That could then allow him to get fully match-fit ahead of a return to Premiership action at the weekend against Dundee.

West Ham fans erupt over Odubeko news

Flocking to Twitter, many West Ham United fans have erupted over an official development involving young striker Ademipo Odubeko.

The 18-year-old, who has been on fire at youth level for the Hammers since the 2019/2020 campaign, certainly looks like a real prospect and one who could shine for manager David Moyes in years to come.

Odubeko has bagged a very impressive 26 strikes in 24 appearances across both West Ham’s Under-18s and Under-23s teams since he signed from Manchester United in 2019.

So far, the teenager has made just two senior appearances under Moyes but the club have now announced some big news regarding Odubeko, his playing time and future in east London.

As confirmed by West Ham, the Irishman has now penned a contract extension until 2023 and heads out on loan to Huddersfield Town for the remainder of 2021/2022.

Flocking to this development, which one fan called ‘fantastic news’, it’s clear to see why supporters are excited at the prospect of this young goalscorer getting game in the short-term time whilst also committing himself to the club for the future.

Celtic: Giakoumakis fee revealed

Greek reporter Giannis Chorianopoulos has revealed the fee Celtic have agreed with VVV-Venlo for striker Georgios Giakoumakis.

The Lowdown: Celtic’s summer

The Hoops have already been extremely busy in the transfer market, bringing in eight first-team additions at just over £17m.

Ange Postecoglou could yet land three more players, one of which could be a forward.

Celtic’s last signing was Josip Juranovic from Legia Warsaw in a deal worth £2.7m, and it appears as if Giakoumakis could arrive for a fee less than that figure.

The Latest: Thursday post

Chorianopoulos took to Twitter on Thursday morning, hours before Celtic’s Europa League qualifier second-leg with AZ Alkmaar.

He revealed on Tuesday that an agreement had been reached between the two clubs for Giakoumakis but has now shared a specific €3m (£2.56m) fee.

Chorianopoulos also admitted that there is a €150,000-a-year (£128,000) difference between the player and Parkhead chiefs when it comes to personal terms.

The Verdict: Time is ticking…

The difference in personal terms works out at around just under £2,500-a-week.

The 26-year-old’s VVV-Venlo deal is currently worth £2,200-a-week, so it seems as if he’s holding out for a considerable pay rise.

Only Celtic youngsters Karamoko Dembele and Ross Doohan earn less than £2,200-a-week in Glasgow, so it’s no surprise Giakoumakis is wanting an increase after coming off the best season in front of goal of his career.

Time is ticking, so hopefully, an agreement can be struck before the end of the month.

West Ham: Fans react to Jesse Lingard update

Many West Ham United fans have been reacting on Twitter, after transfer insider Dean Jones suggested to The Football Terrace that Jesse Lingard is likely to join from Manchester United next week, [via The Express].

Of course, the England international was influential for the Hammers in a loan spell in 2020/21, registering 14 goal contributions in 19 appearances; nine goals and five assists [Transfermarkt].

Now, he could well be on his way back to the London Stadium as Jones told The Football Terrace (via The Express) that a move is ‘likely’ before the deadline next week.

West Ham and the Red Devils are believed to have aligned somewhat in terms of their valuation of Lingard, with the 28-year-old looking set to move to the Irons before the closure of the window according to Jones.

In light of this news, no wonder loads of West Ham United diehards took to social media to comment on the latest developments.

Crystal Palace: Fans react to Will Hughes update

Crystal Palace have had a £5m offer for Watford midfielder Will Hughes rejected, according to The Sun (August 17, page 51), cited by CPFC Transfers HQ on Twitter.

And, as to be expected, a number of Palace fans have been reacting to the development on social media.

The 26-year-old is into the final 12 months of his Vicarage Road contract and has rejected a new five-year deal with the Hornets earlier this summer.

It is thought that the central midfielder’s representatives are actively looking at alternative options, with Hughes demoted to the club’s Under-23s last month.

The Eagles want a midfielder and two forwards between now and the end of the month to bolster Patrick Vieira’s squad, and it appears as if they have firmed up their interest in Hughes.

Palace have had an opening offer of £5m turned down but have no intention of increasing their bid, with the report claiming Watford are holding out for £12m.

Palace fans react

@CPFCtransfersHQ shared the development regarding Hughes on social media on Tuesday morning.

This is what these Eagles supporters had to say in reply…

Ball: Pep Guardiola would bring Harry Kane’s game on

Former Manchester City player Michael Ball believes that manager Pep Guardiola could improve Harry Kane.

The Tottenham striker has been linked with a summer move to the Etihad Stadium, with journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting that Spurs turned down a £100m bid earlier in the summer, insisting they want to keep Kane at the club.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola told the media [via Simon Stone] that: “He is a Tottenham player. If Tottenham don’t want to negotiate, it is finished. If they want to negotiate, many clubs would like to sign him, we are not an exception. We are very interested in him.”

Harry Kane published a statement on his own Twitter account on Friday, explaining that he will be returning to Tottenham on Saturday as planned and that he hasn’t refused to train, and never would.

But with the speculation linking him to Manchester City, Ball believes Pep Guardiola could improve the striker, exclusively telling the Transfer Tavern: “Harry Kane, you’d love to see him at Manchester City teaming up with De Bruyne and the other guys, I think Pep would bring Harry Kane’s game on as well, like he did with Aguero.”

Kane has been an unbelievable player for Tottenham, scoring three occasions, finishing with 25 goals in the 2015/2016 season, 29 goals in 2016/2017 and 23 goals last term.

The Cityzens have already strengthened their star-studded squad ahead of 2021/2022, completeing the signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for £100m, but Pep Guardiola’s very public admission that he is indeed interested in Kane’s services suggests he may be prepared to cheque book out again before the transfer window closes.

Saints fans react to Vestergaard news

Southampton fans have been reacting to the news that Jannik Vestergaard does not want to sign a new contract at the club but there have been no serious offers for his services.

The Saints will kick off their new season against Everton on Saturday at Goodison Park, and Ralph Hasenhuttl will be hoping to see a positive performance from his players. They finished in a disappointing 15th place in the Premier League table last term – the Austrian will therefore be looking for immediate improvement this time out.

£16.2m-valued Vestergaard (Transfermarkt) was away with Denmark on international duty at Euro 2020 and has not long since returned to the club from his post-tournament break. According to The Telegraph, he has no desire to extend his contract but the club have not yet received any offers for his services.

The news was shared on Twitter by @SaintsExtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the Gers supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Celtic: Hoops linked with Ben Davies

Celtic have once again been linked with a move for Liverpool defender Ben Davies, according to The Daily Mail’s Dominic King.

The Lowdown: Winter window saga

Davies was wanted by then-Celtic manager Neil Lennon during the January window earlier this year. The 25-year-old was under contract with Preston North End at the time, with the Hoops looking at a pre-contract agreement.

Sky Sports suggested at the end of January that Celtic reached a pre-contract agreement with the left-footed centre-back, but he ended up signing for Liverpool at the last minute.

He is yet to play for Jurgen Klopp’s side, however, and it appears as if he could now depart Anfield without ever featuring for the Reds.

The Latest: Celtic not the only club keen

King took to Twitter on Tuesday evening, sharing news of Fabinho’s new five-year deal at Anfield. He then added that Celtic, Bournemouth and Sheffield United are all keen on Davies, with the latter of the trio having had an initial loan enquiry turned down.

Neil Jones, Liverpool’s correspondent for Goal, revealed on Wednesday morning that the Reds are actually now ready to let Davies go out on loan, also name-checking the three clubs that King mentioned.

The Verdict: Could still be an expensive deal

With Davies thought to be on £60,000 per week on Merseyside, a temporary move could still turn out to be relatively expensive for Celtic – although it is worth noting that each of the Hoops’ current centre-backs are predominantly right-footed, so the 25-year-old would give them something different in that regard.

Who knows, Liverpool may want to receive a loan fee for the defender who Peter Ridsdale called ‘outstanding’, so that on top of a percentage, if not all of his salary, would add up over the season.

Jones believes that the Blades are winning the race for Davies, so if Celtic want to go after the defender again, they may have to be quick.

In other news: Fabrizio Romano claims Celtic were moving for £4.5k-p/w ace on Tuesday; fee appears to be agreed.

Wolves: Fans react to Rui Patricio departure

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed that Portugal international goalkeeper Rui Patricio has completed a move to Serie A giants Roma [BBC].

Enjoying a special career at Molineux, he made 127 appearances across three years in the West Midlands, registering 37 clean sheets [Transfermarkt].

Intriguingly, the 33-year-old moves to the Stadio Olimpico to work under Jose Mourinho, arriving in Rome as the Special One’s first summer signing at the helm of his new club.

Proactively looking to the future, Wolves look set to bring in fellow Portuguese goalkeeper Olympiakos stopper Jose Sa as a replacement, which is set to be confirmed in the coming days [BBC].

In light of this news, no wonder loads of Wolverhampton Wanderers diehards took to Twitter to pay tribute to their icon upon his departure.

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC fans react:

Replying to the Wolverhampton Wanderers FC Official Twitter account, here is what some supporters had to say upon hearing the recent developments surrounding Patricio:

Matt Maher drops Villa update on Grealish

The Express and Star’s Matt Maher has dropped an update on Aston Villa talisman Jack Grealish before England’s quarter-final clash against Ukraine at Euro 2020 tonight.

What’s the story?

In what promises to be one of the big transfer stories of the summer window, the 25-year-old has been linked with a big-money move to Premier League champions Manchester City, with reports even suggesting that he was nearing a transfer to the Etihad Stadium.

However, Maher has poured cold water over such speculation, instead insisting that Villa are actually in the best position they have ever been in terms of potentially keeping Grealish at Villa Park.

He reported: “Where Grealish is concerned, Villa are probably in the strongest position they have ever been. In previous years, there was a genuine risk of losing him for well below his market value had they gone into administration (2018), failed to win promotion (2019) or been relegated (2020). Instead, Villa are now considered among the Premier League’s most upwardly-mobile clubs, while Grealish is contracted for the next four years.

“Whatever the next few weeks might bring, there is a sense Villa really cannot lose. Either Grealish stays, or he departs for a colossal fee which would then be reinvested in the playing squad to mitigate his departure.

“Of course, the former option is very much the preference for Villa’s billionaire owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, which is why they are ready to offer their captain another significant pay rise less than a year after the last one. It is their wealth which puts Villa in the enviable position to reject, should they wish, any offers which come their way, no matter how high the figures might climb.”

Fans will be buzzing

With England’s quarter-final against Ukraine looming on the horizon tonight, Maher’s update on Grealish and where things stand right now, and the position of strength he believes Villa hold over the playmaker, is sure to have the club’s fans buzzing.
Make no mistake about it, losing a player of the 25-year-old’s quality would be a hammer blow, especially for a team looking to take that next step and get into Europe over the coming years – his tally of seven goals and 12 assists in an injury-hit 2020/21 season is testament to just how good he is.
Therefore, the news that NSWE are preparing to offer Grealish a new contract and a bumper pay rise, instead of looking to cash in on him, must be exciting news for Villa fans and should have them on cloud nine.
Meanwhile, Villa are closing in on this big-money signing…
