Leeds fans excited by Adolfo Gaich transfer report

A recent transfer report has left plenty of Leeds United supporters brimming with excitement this week.

According to Football Insider, the west Yorkshire outfit are ‘closely monitoring’ San Lorenzo striker Adolfo Gaich ahead of a potential summer move upon their long-awaited return to the Premier League.

It’s claimed that the Argentine forward has a release clause of £12m and has attracted interest across Europe, although his preference is thought to be a move to Italy’s Serie A.

And many at Elland Road would love to see him arrive…

The 21-year-old has bagged five goals in 13 appearances this campaign despite only playing 680 minutes, via Transfermarkt.

It’s led to one supporter likening the forward to Martin Palermo, who one played for Villarreal whilst others believe it would be a “big statement” to land him.

Some other members of the United faithful were quick to suggest that this sort of news probably means that manager Marcelo Bielsa is going to stay.

There were even some lauding Gaich as the ideal sort of striker the Argentine likes as he’s “mobile” and runs about a lot.

Leeds currently have Patrick Bamford and RB Leipzig loanee Jean-Kevin Augustin to call upon to lead the line with the latter having an obligation to buy should the club clinch promotion in these final nine matches.

Therefore, it raises questions to if these reports are accurate, although one fan believes it could push the 26-year-old closer to the exit door.

Tottenham Hotspur: Harry Kane provides fans with update on Instagram which Eric Dier loves

Tottenham talisman Harry Kane has kept Spurs fans in the loop after he posted a video of Eric Dier, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min training together at Hotspur Way.

Kane has recovered from a hamstring injury and will be looking to make an immediate impact when football returns next month.

The 26-year-old uploaded footage of the Spurs quartet taking part in a game of teqball.

Kane’s teammate Eric Dier didn’t like being on the losing side and demanded a rematch in the comments section.

The England international is the club’s leading goalscorer this season and he has netted 11 goals and created 2 assists in just 20 Premier League games for Jose Mourinho’s side so far.

Mourinho’s men are currently eighth in the table, seven points behind Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, and the Englishman will no doubt be hoping he can rediscover his goalscoring form and lift the Lilywhites into the Champions League qualification places.

It is worth pointing out Spurs only won won three games in the league whilst he recovered from injury.

His strikeforce partner Son is the club’s second-highest goalscorer this season, scoring nine goals and creating seven assists in the English top flight, taking three shots per game, averaging more than one key pass and making at least two dribbles per match on average (via WhoScored).

Spurs fans will surely be excited to see the duo returning to duty, as the Premier League moves nearer to a return behind closed doors in June.

Wolves fans are spot on with their glowing assessment of Joao Moutinho

Wolverhampton Wanderers moved into the top five reckoning in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth.

Nuno Santo’s side downed the ten-men south coasters thanks to first-half strikes from Joao Moutinho and Raul Jimenez.

The Portuguese playmaker fired in a free-kick to mark the perfect occasion as it was announced that he had signed a contract extension prior to the match.

Several of the Molineux faithful have been debating his impact since he signed for the club in the summer of 2018 from Monaco.

Many believe the 33-year-old is certainly in the conversation as one of the greatest ever players to wear the old gold shirt, which is quite something considering how long he’s been in the west Midlands.

One supporter stated Moutinho is the best he’s ever seen at the club, which was reinforced by another who claimed the midfielder had already written his name in history.

Others described him as a ‘Rolls-Royce,’ a ‘true asset,’ and a ‘master’ with a further fan going as far as saying he was ‘class personified’ and that he was a joy to watch.

This assessment of the Portugal international is pretty much spot on – Wolves are enjoying the best times in their history, having reached a league-high seventh last season, which resulted in European competition for the first time in nearly 40 years.

Moutinho has been integral to that, he recorded eight assists in the top-flight last term and has already notched up seven in all competitions this time around.

All for just £5m too, a complete bargain.

The Euro 2016 winner is only getting better with age, just like a fine wine, and Wolves will continue to reap those rewards.

In doing so, the case for Moutinho as one of the greatest to grace the hallowed Molineux turf will only get stronger and stronger – meaning many in the fanbase appear to be spot on.

Here’s what the fans are saying:

Meanwhile, some Wolves fans can’t wait to see the back of one of Moutinho’s teammates…

Spurs fans absolutely loving report on Christian Eriksen

Despite leaving the club in the January transfer window, there can be no doubt Christian Eriksen proved himself to be one of the best value for money signings in Tottenham’s recent history.

The Denmark international arrived in north London from Dutch giants Ajax for a reported fee of just £11.5m back in the summer of 2013, and he went on to enjoy a very impressive career.

As per Transfermarkt, he ended up making 305 appearances for the club, scoring an impressive 69 times and providing a further 89 assists. But with his original contract with Spurs set to come to an end at the end of this season, Eriksen was finally allowed to make the move to Inter in January, and it appears things haven’t worked out so well for him.

The Greatest Bargains in Premier League history – How much did they cost?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

According to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter boss Antonio Conte has been left less than impressed with the play-maker’s form, and has demanded him to improve his intensity.

After hearing about the report about their former player, Spurs fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the situation.

Some Spurs fans didn’t seem shocked at all, with one supporter in particular saying that Eriksen had “peaked a while back”.

So it looks like Spurs cut their losses on Eriksen at just about the right time.

The Dane’s final few months in north London were nothing short of a disaster, scoring just twice in 20 Premier League games and finding himself in and out of the first-team.

And if the report on Conte’s thoughts are true, then Spurs may have dodged a bullet by refusing to extend Eriksen’s deal.

Meanwhile, Spurs fans react to their interest in this 15-goal striker.

Anthony Gordon is remaining grounded as he works towards the first-team

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Anthony Gordon has spoken about his dedicated plan to make an impression on Marco Silva more than two years after he made his first-team debut.

What did he say?

The 18-year-old has been on the fans’ minds for a long time and many have called for him to get into the senior squad.

So far, Gordon has just one first-team appearance, which came in a Europa League game against Apollon Limassol.

This season, the youngster was involved on the bench for the trip to Southampton, but still has to wait for his first start. Now, he has spoken of how he has stayed grounded and is still working towards a place with Marco Silva’s men.

Gordon told evertonfc.com: “I just try to enjoy myself and get better every day.

“You never sit down and think, ‘I have a chance’. That is for other people to say. I am just trying to keep getting better and progressing.

“I haven’t played one game competitively for the first team [bar those two minutes in Cyprus].

“To be around it shows I am progressing well. But I am not there yet. I am not starting for the first team and I still have so much to do.

“I saw how hard it was with David Unsworth in La Manga and thought, ‘I am not going back unprepared [this season]’.

[ad_pod ]

“I went on one holiday, then came back and trained every day. That set me up perfectly for the season.

“I have been mentally preparing for this [involvement with the first team] since last pre-season. I am starting to show I can cope with that level.

“I have the ability and believe in myself.”

Making the right noises

Gordon now has six goals and three assists in ten appearances for the U23s this season and once again showed his worth as he rocketed home a fine strike for England last week.

Now, not only is he making the right impression on the pitch, it seems he is doing the right thing off it as well.

Gordon is showing all the attributes to suggest he has the potential to become a top player and an important part of the first-team set up on Merseyside.

If the attacker keeps applying himself in this manner, it surely won’t be long until we see him with the senior squad.

Man Utd target Jadon Sancho would be "crazy" to join them, says Steve Nicol

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking on ESPN FC, Steve Nicol has claimed Jadon Sancho would be “crazy” to join Manchester United.

What did he say?

The Borussia Dortmund is one of the hottest properties in European football at the moment, following a meteoric rise whilst playing in the Bundesliga. The 19-year-old has scored 18 goals and provided 31 assists in 71 games across all competitions, and that form has understandably led to transfer interest from other clubs, including Manchester United.

Reports in recent weeks have claimed the England international is set to be a leading target for the Red Devils next summer, but Nicol believes that would be a major mistake on the part of Sancho.

He said: “I think he’s crazy if he goes to Man United. We’re talking about he’s struggling in a team that’s struggling (Dortmund) – Man United are going to be struggling for a couple of seasons, so I would stay away from there. Well if I was advising him, let me put it that way, I would like to see him at Liverpool.”

Champions League

Make no mistake about it, United desperately need to secure Champions League football for next season. The very best players – whether they’re in the peak years of their careers or up-and-coming stars like Sancho – want to be plying their trade in European football’s elite competition.

The Red Devils currently find themselves in seventh place in the Premier League, nine points off fourth-placed Manchester City. The gap is still something Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side can claw back, and if they manage to do it, their chances of landing Sancho would be boosted tremendously. So whilst it may seem “crazy” now to envisage the £90m-rated star at Old Trafford, it may not look the case at the end of the season.

Wolves striker Raul Jimenez wouldn’t look out of place playing for the elite

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Wolverhampton Wanderers continued to be difficult to beat as they made it six games unbeaten with a point against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

Mexican striker Raul Jimenez cancelled out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 21st-minute strike when he rose highest in the second half to head home Joao Moutinho’s whipped cross.

Much of the talk this Premier League weekend has been surrounding Jamie Vardy and how he has reached double figures for the season before any other striker, but that’s a feat already managed by the Wolves forward.

His goal at the Emirates was his 11th of the season, granted he’s had Europa League qualification to aid him in reaching that number before Vardy, but still, it’s about time the £31.5m-rated (Transfermarkt) striker was spoken about in similar vein.

Jimenez has been one of Wolves’ most integral figures over the past two seasons, and his showing against Arsenal epitomised that.

Per SofaScore, he had a total of eight shots at goal, half were blocked and the other half were on target, while he also won six of his nine aerial duels and recorded one key pass.

No other player on the pitch in North London on Saturday had more attempts at goal, not even last season’s Golden Boot winner.

The 28-year-old has now taken his tally at Molineux to 28 from just 64 appearances, which is very nearly a goal every other game, via Transfermarkt.

Watch an interview with former Wolves and Wales hero Dave Edwards in the video below…

His 76th-minute goal was also the third time he’s come up clutch to earn his side a point in the top-flight this season, earlier in the year against Burnley and then against Southampton more recently.

Jimenez’s contribution last season undoubtedly was a massive part in Wolves creating history by finishing seventh in the Premier League, so maybe it is a surprise to see a lack of transfer interest in him from those bigger, more elite clubs.

But that’s only going to benefit the west Midlanders as their prized possession is quietly going about his business without any concerning distractions.

Tottenham fans criticise Dele Alli’s performance vs Liverpool

Some Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to critique Dele Alli’s performance against Liverpool on Sunday, as Spurs threw away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 against the European champions.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men went ahead straight away through Harry Kane, but allowed Jordan Henderson to equalise in the second half before Mohamed Salah won the game from the penalty spot.

A numbers of Spurs players were ineffective, but Alli was almost non-existent as his poor form continues.

The former MK Dons star didn’t have a single shot on Alisson’s goal, let alone a shot on target, while he also failed to register a key pass against the Merseysiders.

The 23-year-old also didn’t embark on a single dribble, nor did he draw a foul for his side – Alli was also dispossessed on three occasions.

Disappointingly, the 37-cap England international still has just one Premier League goal to his name this term, having hit a mediocre five goals last season.

Let’s see how the Tottenham fans on Twitter reacted to his showing at Anfield…

Man Utd’s Dean Henderson has the "cockiness" to rival David de Gea, says ex-coach

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to The Athletic, former Manchester United goalkeeping coach Eric Steele has tipped Dean Henderson to compete with David de Gea for the number one spot at Old Trafford.

What did he say?

Henderson is in the midst of his second successive year-long loan spell at Sheffield United, but signed a new long-term contract with the Red Devils earlier in the summer.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

Now, Steele has backed Henderson to challenge De Gea for a first-team role when he makes his return from Bramall Lane next year, and insisted he has the right characteristics to do so.

He said: “He has all the physical attributes you need. Plus that cockiness and confidence about him. He sees himself as the biggest challenger to David De Gea at Manchester United and I love that. Even though he is not at the club right now.

“I have no problems with that. He is doing the right thing and getting experience at a good club. He is still a young keeper. Peter Schmeichel didn’t come to Old Trafford until he was 28. David De Gea was the exception at 19 or 20. I have said this to Dean privately. He is still a young keeper.

“Knowing Dean as I do, what he will be thinking is, ‘Richard Hartis (Manchester United’s senior goalkeeping coach) and Ole Gunnar (Solskjaer), please keep sending your scouts to Sheffield United’. He knows he is being watched. He knows what is required. Hartis will be asking, ‘Who is going to challenge De Gea?’ I am sure Dean will be thinking he can be the number one at Manchester United.”

Competition

Make no mistake about it, if Henderson thought it would be a difficult job to displace De Gea earlier in the summer, then the Spaniard’s bumper new contract has made his task that much harder.

United’s decision to hand the former Atletico Madrid man a fresh deal suggests they don’t have a massive amount of faith in Henderson to come in and become the number one straight-away. As always, pre-season will be key, but, if the 22-year-old can enjoy an impressive campaign in the top-flight with the Blades, then Solskjaer’s side will have a real conundrum on their hands.

Competition for places and the pressure of knowing that you have to perform on a week-to-week basis can increase the quality of performances from players. And, Henderson’s return to Old Trafford could spark a major upturn in form for both him and De Gea too.

Liverpool could replicate iconic Invincibles on their quest for Premier League glory

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown and esteemed member of the Invincibles, a squad that went an entire campaign without losing a single game in the Premier League, believes that Jurgen Klopp’s current Liverpool side have the potential to replicate his 2003/04 success.Watch Liverpool Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

If the Reds record three points at Old Trafford on Sunday when they travel to face strugglers Manchester United, they’ll draw level with Manchester City for the most consecutive wins in the Premier League (Liverpool currently sit on 17; the record is 18).

Last season’s runners-up lost just one game on their journey to second place, which came against champions City. They’ve since won the Champions League, and have continued their dominance domestically in typically staunch fashion despite the absence of Golden Glove winner Alisson. Liverpool have maintained the best defensive record in the league, and have conceded just eight goals with former West Ham United stopper Adrian between the sticks.

With Pep Guardiola’s side faltering, having already lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norwich City, now seems as good a time as any to seize the trophy that has eluded Anfield for 30 years.

Keown had his say…
