Celtic had a howler over Lewis Morgan sale

Celtic have been involved in many transfer deals over the years, whether it be in terms of new players making moves to Parkhead or others leaving the club on loan or permanent deals.

One particular move that took place in recent years that the Hoops may now be regretting is their sale of winger Lewis Morgan.

Signed from St. Mirren during the 2018 January transfer window for a fee of around £300k, the attacker made just 31 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions.

In those appearances, the winger scored two goals and provided only three assists before being sold to Inter Miami in January 2020 for a fee of £400k.

Even though they managed to make a profit on him, it didn’t feel worthwhile signing him in the first place based on what they got out of him on the pitch in terms of consistent goals and assists.

With 58 appearances to his name for David Beckham’s club, the former Celtic figure found the net seven times and delivered seven assists before then being sold again.

This time, Morgan found himself staying in America but joining New York Red Bulls back in December for a fee of $1.2m (£942k).

Having played in just eight games for his new club, the attacker, who was picking up £8k-per-week in Miami, has scored four goals and provided one assist for his teammates.

According to Transfermarkt, the Scotsman’s current market value stands at £3.6m, which is significantly higher than the fee that Celtic got for him and what his value was listed as during his time at Parkhead.

This highlights just how impressive the 25-year-old has been since leaving Celtic, as he now seems to be shining in America.

Praised for his “unique” ability to use both feet to an equally high level on the pitch by his previous club, Morgan could now be filed under the category of players that Celtic were maybe a bit hasty when it came to selling.

Even though the Bhoys have not had much trouble when it comes to scoring goals in the league this season, it would have been interesting to see what Morgan could have achieved under the management of Ange Postecoglou had the club not sold him.

We didn't play to our potential – Sammy

Darren Sammy, the West Indies captain, has said that his team didn’t play as well as he would have wanted them to in the second Test

Darren Sammy, the West Indies captain, has said that his team didn’t play as well as he would have wanted them to in the second Test against Sri Lanka. “It’s always difficult when you are on and off the cricket field. Today it looked like we wouldn’t have any play, but the weather cleared up. That’s something as professionals we have to master.”However, he said the team was able to create chances throughout the game and the most important thing is that the West Indies still have a chance to win the series heading in to the third Test. He was also not worried about the number of catches the West Indies have dropped over the first two games.”I know the potential we have as a fielding team. The guys work hard and put a high level of quality on their fielding. In cricket, you drop catches, but what I like to see is half-chances to go in our favour, at least one or two. We haven’t been to capitalize on the half-chances our bowlers created. But all in all, we could work on it and correct it.”Sammy also said he was pleased with the team’s work ethic and that they are taking “baby steps” towards restoring pride in the West Indies team. “You don’t change overnight. You have a process. I must say that our work ethic has been excellent. Even the fight we showed this afternoon, though we lost two wickets, it’s good to see that we are thinking of the fans at home. They are waking up at early hours to watch this game.”From the reports we have got from there they are quite happy to see the fight the team is putting.”

Kochi wants more time to resolve problems

The consortium that won the bid for the Kochi IPL franchise has asked the BCCI for more time to sort out their internal disputes

ESPNcricinfo staff26-Oct-2010The consortium that won the bid for the Kochi IPL franchise has asked the BCCI for more time to sort out their internal disputes. The Indian board had originally given the consortium 10 days to work things out beginning October 10. At the end of that period, though, the two factions in the consortium wrote to the board asking for an extension.”We consortium partners are very close to resolving our internal differences and would like the BCCI to give us some more time and have also sought this,” Satyajitsinh Gaekwad, the head of Rendezvous Sports, told .  “We have not defaulted on any payment to the BCCI and just want some more time.”Meanwhile the IPL governing council will meet on Wednesday in Nagpur to decide the fate of the franchise. “The only point on the agenda is Kochi,” one of the BCCI officials said on the content of the short notice sent to the panel.Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar is reportedly assisting the franchise in an advisory capacity, something the board said it was not aware of, but will consider at the governing council meeting tomorrow. “We were never informed because this issue was never there,” BCCI vice-President Rajiv Shukla said. “For the first time we are coming to know about this. We will discuss the issue in the meeting tomorrow.”Gavaskar was a member of the governing council for the IPL’s first three years. He declined to continue on the committee this year after the board decided to stop paying the committee members. The Kochi franchise has been controversial from its very inception in March. Rendezvous Sports World, a consortium of five companies, became the tenth IPL franchise after a successful bid of US$333.33m, but almost immediately ran into trouble over the composition of its ownership, after the discovery of a few “secret partners” in the consortium. A new agreement was then signed by both the parties but fresh controversy broke when Lalit Modi, the then IPL chairman, made the ownership details public on his Twitter feed.Six months after the auction Kochi has still failed to resolve its various internal disputes, which revolve around the distribution of shares in the consortium. The investors are unhappy with the promoters, who do not want to give up the rights to lead the franchise. Despite several lengthy meetings over the past few days, the two factions remain at loggerheads.

Ponting questions England batting strength

Ricky Ponting has questioned whether England have the batting strength necessary to retain the Ashes by winning in Australia

Ricky Ponting has questioned whether England have the batting strength necessary to retain the Ashes by winning in Australia, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since Mike Gatting’s team did so in 1986-87.”Kevin Pietersen, obviously, is a big question mark for them at the moment,” Ponting told UAE’s Radio 2 (listen to the entire interview on ESPNcricinfo’s ). “Alastair Cook is just holding on to his spot by the skin of his teeth, and [Paul] Collingwood has probably not had the best Test summer of his life either. So there is enough happening around there to know that they will be a little nervous when they arrive in Australia.”Pietersen averaged 27.25 in four innings against Pakistan this summer and hasn’t scored a century in 19 months. John Buchanan, the former Australia coach who has accepted a consulting role with the ECB, had also suggested that Pietersen could be a ‘major problem’ for England.Cook had been under intense pressure following a prolonged lean spell before earning some breathing room with a gutsy 110 against Pakistan at The Oval. Collingwood had a successful tour of South Africa last winter but six of his previous eight Test innings have been scores of five or less.Ponting said that England could pose a strong challenge, especially with the rise of offspinner Graeme Swann and fast bowler Stuart Broad, whose five wickets at The Oval were vital to England reclaiming the Ashes last year, continuing to deliver in crunch situations.”They have some good players in their side at the moment, who are playing well,” Ponting said. “Graeme Swann is probably the stand out. Stuart Broad, and probably their captain [Andrew Strauss], these have been the guys who have stood up for them over the last couple of years. But they have certainly been the more consistent team than any English team I have played against in the past.”Australia have a formidable home record, having lost only one series since 1992-93. They blanked England 5-0 in 2006-07, and Ponting hoped his side could repeat that performance. “We all know how hard opposition teams find it coming to Australia, and particularly starting at the Gabba, they always find it a difficult place to win. So as an Australian, and an Australian captain, we are hoping for a very similar series to the last one.”Ponting has played in more Test wins than anyone else and already has three World Cup trophies – two as captain – but insisted his hunger for the game hadn’t waned.”There is no doubt about that. I mean, I would have not worked as hard as I have over the last eight weeks if the hunger wasn’t there,” he said. “I am as excited about the next period of cricket, with the Ashes and then the World Cup at the end of that, so that is about six or seven months of biggest cricket tournaments that you ever play.”

Mesmo pressionado, Dorival Júnior segue no comando do São Paulo

MatériaMais Notícias

O técnico Dorival Júnior segue no comando do São Paulo.

A equipe cria e produz.

Temos um time confiável.

Crystal Palace: Journalist thinks Butland will start over Guaita at Wembley

Journalist Rahman Osman believes Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira could drop Vicente Guaita to stick with Jack Butland against Chelsea this weekend.

The Lowdown: Palace’s run to the semi-final

Palace have enjoyed a solid and sometimes exciting first season under Vieira and are now preparing for a Wembley showdown with their London rivals.

The Eagles have defeated Millwall, Hartlepool United, Stoke City and Everton on their way to the last four, conceding just twice.

Butland has played every minute of domestic cup action this season, with Guaita first choice in the league, and Osman thinks the Spaniard, who Roy Hodgson labelled as ‘excellent’, will be dropped following the 2-1 loss to Leicester last time out.

The Latest: Guaita to be axed?

Osman shared a story on London World on Wednesday, looking at three Palace stars Vieira may leave out this weekend.

One of those was Guaita, with the reporter believing Vieira will ‘break the heart’ of the 35-year-old by sticking with Butland at Wembley.

The Verdict: Right decision?

Some managers decide to bring back their first choice ‘keeper in the latter stages of cup competitions, but it only seems fair for Vieira to leave Guaita out and stick with Butland – just look at how Caoimhin Kelleher rewarded Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final this year.

Butland made a big blunder against Millwall in the third round but hasn’t been troubled much in the FA Cup since then, though he could be a much busier man on Sunday.

We will soon find out what Vieira decides in regards to selection, however, bigger calls may have to be made outfield, especially with injury concerns to Tyrick Mitchell and Michael Olise.
