Depois do susto, o gol
Eram só três minutos quando Gabriel Dias quase fez valer a lei do ex, sozinho na pequena área após cobrança de escanteio. Jailson fez defesa salvadora e voltaria a trabalhar instantes depois, espalmando chute de Pottker. O Palmeiras errava muito e não conseguia jogar.

Aos poucos, o time de Roger Machado foi se encontrando e impondo seu estilo de jogo. A atuação não enchia os olhos, mas Lucas Lima mostrava evolução em relação às partidas anteriores e as arrancadas de Keno assustavam. Em uma delas, Danilo Fernandes rebateu e deixou Borja diante do gol escancarado, mas o colombiano cabeceou por cima.

O gol saiu aos 39 minutos da etapa inicial. Lucas Lima deu linda enfiada para Diogo Barbosa, que fez um cruzamento sob medida para o baixinho Dudu cabecear para as redes.

Damião fica no quase
Leandro Damião substituiu Nico López no intervalo e foi quem mais ameaçou a vitória palmeirense. Ele levou perigo em duas cabeçadas, uma defendida por Jailson e outra que passou perto da trave, e chegou a marcar o gol após um giro na área. A arbitragem, porém, já assinalava impedimento duvidoso. D’Alessandro também entrou bem no lugar de Camilo, mas desta vez o Palmeiras não cedeu o empate no fim do jogo.

O Verdão teve um momento de amplo domínio no segundo tempo. O time não deixava o Inter sair de trás e por pouco não anotou com Lucas Lima, que carimbou a trave após bom passe de Borja. O camisa 20 ouviu aplausos ao dar lugar a Moisés.

Agora vem o Boca
O Palmeiras volta a campo na quarta, contra o Boca, em La Bombonera, pela Libertadores. O próximo jogo do Brasileiro será domingo, contra a Chape, no Allianz. No mesmo dia, o Inter recebe o Cruzeiro.

Rob Key top scored with 59 in reply but Kent were never able to keep up with the required rate as they suffered their third defeat in five games in the competition.Nash had made a first century of the season in the last round of County Championship matches against Somerset and carried on where he left off. He set the tone by crashing Azhar Mahmood for three boundaries in the first over and together with Ed Joyce put on 50 for the first wicket.Joyce was caught at mid off trying to hit James Tredwell’s first ball out of the ground but it did not halt Sussex’s momentum as Luke Wright came in to put on 77 with Nash for the second wicket.Wright fell for 41 as he holed out trying to hit down the ground and it was left to Nash to hold together the Sussex innings.Nash brought up his 50 off 50 balls with seven fours and then hit Adam Ball for the only six of the match on his way to passing his previous best one-day score of 85.The 28-year-old completed his century with a single of James Tredwell but Sussex floundered in the last ten overs as they went from 180 for three to 249 all out, including losing four wickets for two runs in the final over.Kent’s reply was hindered when Joe Denly and Matt Coles fell in quick succession which left Key and Martin van Jaarsveld to rebuild their innings.They put on 48 together in cautious fashion before Nash pulled off a stunning catch to dismiss van Jaarsveld for 24 off the bowling of Monty Panesar. Rana Naved then dropped a simple chance at mid-off when Darren Stevens was just four and it looked like being costly as Stevens went on to hit 43 from just 37 balls.Rana made amend by trapping Stevens lbw and Kent’s hopes looked over when Key followed soon after for 59. Geraint Jones and Azhar Mahmood briefly threatened to set up a dramatic finish but both fell in successive balls to Yardy and Rana as Sussex ran out comfortable winners.

Pakistan’s need for a substantial opening stand is growing and Mohammad Hafeez is confident he and Ahmed Shehzad can deliver

Three matches in and murmurs over Pakistan’s opening combination are increasing. Mohammad Hafeez and Ahmed Shehzad have put on 11, 28 and 16 against Kenya, Sri Lanka and Canada but on two occasions the middle order has bailed the side out. There is no move from the team management to change things just yet – in fact there is a commendable rigidity to stick, as much as possible, to the same winning XI – but the need for a substantial stand is growing.Hafeez has looked the more fluent of the two, particularly in his 32 against Sri Lanka, where a disastrous run-out ended a promising knock. The surfaces they have come across, while good for batting, have been more competitive than some seen in the World Cup and that Hafeez concluded has also played a part.”When you assess the pitch as an opener, you have to plan out what it would be like, and both pitches at Hambantota and at the Premadasa had a lot of movement and swing,” Hafeez said in Pallekele, a day before his side’s game with New Zealand. “We need some time to build a good partnership but you get one good delivery or a decision goes against you, which are a partof the game, and you have to take it positively. Here there has been some lateral movement with the new ball and swing as well.”Hafeez’s return to the ODI set-up in the last English summer has brought Pakistan a sense of stability at the top, though his most productive partnership has been with Kamran Akmal, now batting at one down. Hafeez averages nearly 33 in 19 ODIs since, with a hundred – in New Zealand – and three fifties. The figures don’t look outstanding, but he has chipped in otherwise, with wickets (13) and a safe presence in the field.”In the three series against England, South Africa and New Zealand I think I’ve been consistent,” Hafeez said. “It’s only that I haven’t performed in three World Cup matches. In one match I got run out and in another I got a bad decision. To perform in cricket you need luck other than your own potential as well sometimes.”A good start also gives Pakistan greater flexibility in their batting order. Because the openers have not so far come off, Pakistan has stuck with bringing Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq together behind Kamran Akmal, in order to insure against a collapse. But there are indications within the camp that if the openers provide a substantial, pacy start, Abdul Razzaq or even Shahid Afridi could be pushed up the order, as high as one-down.Having scored his first and only ODI hundred against tomorrow’s opponents in the series in January, a change of results, Hafeez believes, is due. “As an opener I know we have not given good starts to the team, but there’s no lack of confidence. We just need one good partnership to get back the confidence. We handled New Zealand’s bowling very well [in New Zealand], I also scored a century against them so the confidence is very high.”

Ao vencer o Cruzeiro, o Atlético-MG garantiu uma boa vantagem para o segundo jogo da final do Campeonato Mineiro, que acontece no próximo domingo, às 16h, no Mineirão. Com dois gols de Ricardo Oliveira e um de Adilson, o time alvinegro não teve dificuldade para bater a abalada Raposa, que precisa vencer por dois gols de diferença se quiser tirar o título do Galo.

Quem ficou feliz com o resultado foi o técnico Thiago Larghi, que elogiou a presença em massa do público alvinegro e revelou o desejo de ver seus comandados vencerem pelo mesmo resultado na decisão.

– Faço questão de agradecer a torcida, nos apoiou em massa e fez uma festa linda. Em relação ao jogo, a gente conseguiu se impor bem. Sofremos um gol. Vamos entrar com a mesma seriedade e disciplina. Sabemos que tem um adversário qualificado do outro lado. Não vamos pensar na vantagem em nenhum instante, temos que fazer valer isso nos 90 minutos no Mineirão – disse o treinador durante entrevista coletiva.

Na visão do comandante, que fechou os treinos durante a semana, evitando dar pistas sobre a escalação e táticas do Atlético, a partida foi a melhor da temporada. Porém, ressalta que mudanças coletivas ainda devem ser realizadas para que o time tenha um desempenho ainda mais notável no próximo jogo.

– Acho que foi a melhor partida em 2018. Já adianto que não foi totalmente satisfatório. Erramos alguns posicionamentos. O grupo sabe que pode ser melhor. E o grupo está disposto a melhorar isso.

Para encerrar, o treinador explicou as alterações feitas na equipe durante a etapa final, quando priorizou a entrada de Tomás Andrade na vaga de Luan, mesmo tendo à disposição jogadores que se destacam pela velocidade.

– O Elias e o Luan estavam cansados. O Luan nos ajuda a manter a posse de bola e o Tomás foi o escolhido. O Tomás tem característica parecida com o Luan, por isso ele foi escolhido. O Yago vem treinando bem desde que voltou de lesão, vem se aplicando nos treinos. Poderia ter sido o Blanco, que também vem treinando bem. O Arouca também vem treinando bem – finalizou.

Com o resultado, o Atlético tira a vantagem do Cruzeiro, que passa a depender de uma vitória por dois gols de diferença sobre o rival para garantir a taça. O confronto decisivo acontece no próximo domingo, às 16h, no Mineirão.

Myburgh provided the acceleration, striking six sixes during his half-century, while James Vince made 36 off 32 balls. Myburgh, who was eventually bowled by Mervin Matthew with the score on 160, was the only batsman dismissed by a Windward bowler. The other three wickets in the score of 166 for 4 were run out.Windward lost Johnson Charles early but Andre Fletcher and Devon Smith steadied the chase. They didn’t score at breakneck speed but they led Windward to 75 in the 10th over, when Riazuddin struck for the first time, getting Smith caught behind. Keddy Lesporis was run out for 6 but Windward were still in it, at 114 for 3, when the 16th over began. In that over, Riazuddin ripped out three wickets, reducing the innings to 116 for 6, and severely broke Windward’s momentum. Riazuddin finished with 4 for 15, and even though Matthew blasted 27 off 15, Windward fell four runs short.Trinidad & Tobago’s passage to the final was easier as they beat Jamaica by eight wickets with 13 balls to spare in the second semi-final. The result ensured T&T’s qualification to the Champions League later this year by virtue of being the best Caribbean side in the competition.Jamaica’s innings failed to take off as wickets fell regularly and the run-rate struggled to rise over six. The top four batsmen fell for less than 20 and strike-rates of less than 100. Wavell Hinds and Andre Russell provided some stability, scoring 23 and 36, but the tail folded after their departures. T&T legspinner Samuel Badree, who opened the bowling, finished with 1 for 15 in four overs, while Ravi Rampaul and Sunil Narine picked up two wickets each. T&T needed only 137 to set up a summit clash with Hampshire.The top order did the job, with Adrian Barath making 37 and Lendl Simmons contributing 51. Darren Bravo continued his impressive form, scoring 25 off 19 balls at No. 3, to lead T&T to 140 for 2 in the 18th over. Of the six bowlers Jamaica used, only Jerome Taylor took a wicket.

Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard could be granted one last chance to rescue their Manchester United careers with the appointment of Erik ten Hag.

What’s the word?

That is according to a report from The Sun who claim that Rashford has received assurances that he will get his chance to perform under Ten Hag next season.

Whilst Lingard could also stay if Ten Hag is able to convince him that he has a future at Manchester United.

Saved or Axed?

24-year-old Rashford has endured the worst season of his career this year, with the out-of-favour England international having just four goals and two assists to show for his 25 appearances for United this season.

It goes without saying that Lingard has also suffered this season, but more so for game-time rather than form, with the 29-year-old accumulating just 355 minutes this campaign from 16 cameo appearances that have seen him grab two goals.

Lingard, who has been dubbed “awful” by Journalist Rob Blanchette, is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with his deal expiring this summer.

Rashford’s situation on the other hand is slightly more intricate, with the winger still holding value amidst his contract expiry in 2023, of which the club have an option to extend by a year.

The 24-year-old – who was labelled “absolutely terrible” by Chris Waddle for his performance against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League – does have something going for him though. And that is the fact that this is his first blip at Man United with the club massively underachieving as a collective this season.

Though, quite simply, the pair have not been good enough this season and with Ten Hag looking to rebuild the Red Devils, the saving in wages on Lingard and the sale of £45m-rated Rashford could help United to build on their transfer war chest.

Ten Hag’s stance on the £275k-per-week pair will make or break their future at Old Trafford, though with on-going links to the likes of Sebastien Haller, Nicolo Zaniolo, and Antony, it does not bode well for the duo and it should well see them axed.
