Test debutant Suraj Randiv was ecstatic after getting his first wicket, that of Virender Sehwag, with a doosra. “Sehwag was on 99 at that time. I thought he might go for a big shot and I thought of bowling a doosra at him. It worked and I got his wicket,” said Randiv who ended the third day of the second Test with figures of 2 for 108. “When you get a player of his calibre it’s a big thing. It’s a privilege. I just came onto bowl and I thought he will do something different. Our bowlers hadn’t given him any easy runs at that stage.”Sehwag had said after the day’s play that he had spotted Randiv’s doosra, but decided to attempt the big hit anyway. “I bowl the doosra but like Murali it doesn’t go the other way a lot,” Randiv said. “But I got some bounce and some help (today),” he said.Randiv said that he was a bit nervous playing in his first Test. “However, with confidence that goes away. I had an opportunity to bowl a lot and it just went away. I guess any player will be nervous.”Randiv stated that there was more help for the spinners on the wicket than for the fast bowlers. “There was a lot of bounce on the track but it was a bit slow.” He said that he was not overawed by the reputation of the Indian batting line-up. “I was just thinking of bowling my line and length. I got a bit of bounce with my action. It was very difficult to bowl a good line and length to Sachin [Tendulkar]. He comes forward and he goes back. It is very difficult to get a correct line and length to him. I think I bowled well to him.He said there was still a lot of hard work ahead for Sri Lanka in the Test. “We need to stop the runs. We need to work hard. The pitch is good and it is very hard to get wickets. We have to be disciplined.”

Mesmo com a presença da PM, o protesto continou. Gritos de “ladrão” e “Andrés, aqui não tem burguês” foram cantados. Em meio ao empurra-empurra, houve agressão a alguns jornalistas. O tumulto chegou ao fim quando Andrés, enfim, conseguiu entrar no prédio administrativo.

Durante a eleição, que ocorreu das 9h às 17h, não houve protestos no Parque São Jorge. Andrés Sanchez foi eleito com 1.235 votos.

Despite having a difficult season as a whole, Leeds United have once again had one player, in particular, stand head and shoulders above the rest of his teammates at Elland Road in terms of his quality on the pitch and what he has delivered for the team.

With 21 Premier League appearances under his belt in this campaign, winger Raphinha, who is currently picking up a weekly wage of £63k-per-week according to Salary Sport, has scored more goals than any of his teammates, having found the back of the net on eight occasions with two assists to his name as well.

In addition to his goals and assists this season, the attacker’s overall performances for Marcelo Bielsa’s side have shown how crucial he is for the club, with WhoScored currently listing him as Leeds’ highest-rated player with a rating of 7.13.

The Yorkshire giants signed the winger back in October 2020 in a deal worth a reported fee of £17m from French club Rennes. Since then, the 25-year-old has made 53 appearances for the Whites across all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists along the way.

Shortly after he made the move to Elland Road, Transfermarkt had Raphinha’s market value listed at £16.2m, whereas it now stands at £36m, highlighting the impressive rise he’s been on since taking the Premier League by storm with Leeds.

The increase in his market value in addition to his goals and assists just goes to show how much of a great bit of business it was from the Yorkshire club to bring the Brazil international, who has been described as a “magician” in the past by his fellow teammate Dan James, to England.

Moving forward, with the winger having been linked with a move away from Leeds during the previous summer transfer window after spending just one season with the Whites, there’s a possibility that there could be more interest in him from other clubs this time around, especially if he continues playing well and adds some more goals and assists to his tally before the end of the campaign.

With that in mind, it could be worth Leeds trying to extend Raphinha’s contract at Elland Road and tie him down for the foreseeable future to see if he can help push the side forward and put their poor season behind them.

Rangers enjoyed a busy transfer window as they managed to bring in Aaron Ramsey, Amad Diallo, Mateusz Zukowski and James Sands throughout January.

However, they failed to move on one of the players who has struggled for game time this season – Jack Simpson. The defender has been an outcast for most of the season so far and they were unable to find him a new home last month.

He joined the Gers for an undisclosed fee from AFC Bournemouth in February 2021. At the time of the deal, ex-Gers boss Steven Gerrard said this: “We are delighted to have Jack here. We have been aware of him for some time and excited to finally have him.

“Clearly it’s a bonus to have him here now earlier than initially planned. His presence makes us stronger and we are all looking forward to working with him.”

Simpson went on to be a big flop after these strong comments as he went on to make seven appearances last term under Gerrard.

Five of these outings came in the league and he averaged a disappointing SofaScore rating of 6.62 for the Gers, losing 50% of his duels and being dribbled past 0.6 times per game. He was a lightweight at centre-back and his statistics show that he was far from good enough to be a regular starter for Rangers.

This season, he has played six games to date – three of which have come in the Premiership – and has started three matches. Gio van Bronckhorst selected Calvin Bassey ahead of him after an injury to Leon Balogun early in his reign and picked James Sands at centre-back alongside Filip Helander in the recent win over Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup.

The Dutch head coach is seemingly not keen on the Englishman and this highlights how poor of a signing he has been, as he is the second manager – after Gerrard – to cast him aside for the majority of their time at the club. This is why he has been a dreadful signing by Wilson and it has cost the sporting director a sizeable chunk of money.

He is reportedly on £3.1k-per-week and has been at Rangers for around 54 weeks, which means that over £167k has been spent on his wages without him making a big contribution to the side. Therefore, he has been draining Wilson’s wage budget without giving much back in return for it.

This is money that could have been spent on bringing in another player who could play regular first-team matches for the Gers. Instead, it appears to be being wasted on Simpson and that theme looks set to continue until the summer transfer window.
