Celtic had a howler over Lewis Morgan sale

Celtic have been involved in many transfer deals over the years, whether it be in terms of new players making moves to Parkhead or others leaving the club on loan or permanent deals.

One particular move that took place in recent years that the Hoops may now be regretting is their sale of winger Lewis Morgan.

Signed from St. Mirren during the 2018 January transfer window for a fee of around £300k, the attacker made just 31 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions.

In those appearances, the winger scored two goals and provided only three assists before being sold to Inter Miami in January 2020 for a fee of £400k.

Even though they managed to make a profit on him, it didn’t feel worthwhile signing him in the first place based on what they got out of him on the pitch in terms of consistent goals and assists.

With 58 appearances to his name for David Beckham’s club, the former Celtic figure found the net seven times and delivered seven assists before then being sold again.

This time, Morgan found himself staying in America but joining New York Red Bulls back in December for a fee of $1.2m (£942k).

Having played in just eight games for his new club, the attacker, who was picking up £8k-per-week in Miami, has scored four goals and provided one assist for his teammates.

According to Transfermarkt, the Scotsman’s current market value stands at £3.6m, which is significantly higher than the fee that Celtic got for him and what his value was listed as during his time at Parkhead.

This highlights just how impressive the 25-year-old has been since leaving Celtic, as he now seems to be shining in America.

Praised for his “unique” ability to use both feet to an equally high level on the pitch by his previous club, Morgan could now be filed under the category of players that Celtic were maybe a bit hasty when it came to selling.

Even though the Bhoys have not had much trouble when it comes to scoring goals in the league this season, it would have been interesting to see what Morgan could have achieved under the management of Ange Postecoglou had the club not sold him.

We didn't play to our potential – Sammy

Darren Sammy, the West Indies captain, has said that his team didn’t play as well as he would have wanted them to in the second Test against Sri Lanka. “It’s always difficult when you are on and off the cricket field. Today it looked like we wouldn’t have any play, but the weather cleared up. That’s something as professionals we have to master.”However, he said the team was able to create chances throughout the game and the most important thing is that the West Indies still have a chance to win the series heading in to the third Test. He was also not worried about the number of catches the West Indies have dropped over the first two games.”I know the potential we have as a fielding team. The guys work hard and put a high level of quality on their fielding. In cricket, you drop catches, but what I like to see is half-chances to go in our favour, at least one or two. We haven’t been to capitalize on the half-chances our bowlers created. But all in all, we could work on it and correct it.”Sammy also said he was pleased with the team’s work ethic and that they are taking “baby steps” towards restoring pride in the West Indies team. “You don’t change overnight. You have a process. I must say that our work ethic has been excellent. Even the fight we showed this afternoon, though we lost two wickets, it’s good to see that we are thinking of the fans at home. They are waking up at early hours to watch this game.”From the reports we have got from there they are quite happy to see the fight the team is putting.”

O Corinthians ajuda?
Time inteiro consegue se ajudar.

Lahore Lions take title after runfest

A vintage Abdul Razzaq onslaught powered Lahore Lions to the second highest total of the tournament, which proved too much even for Karachi Dolphins’ powerful batting line-up

A vintage Abdul Razzaq onslaught muscled Lahore Lions to the second highest total of the tournament, which proved too much even for Karachi Dolphins’ powerful batting line-up in the final of the Faysal Bank T-20 Cup at a packed Gaddafi Stadium. Lahore’s openers, Nasir Jamshed and Ahmed Shehzad, also made major contributions to leave Karachi without a trophy despite four trips to the final of the domestic Twenty20 competition.Shehzad, an 18-year-old who played one match during Pakistan’s run to the World Twenty20 title last year, did the early damage cracking four fours and a six in fast bowler Mohammad Sami’s first two overs. He fell for 43 in the seventh over, by when Jamshed had shrugged off his slow start. Even the dismissal of Umar Akmal, perhaps Lahore’s most dangerous batsman, did not slow Jamshed, who brought up his second half-century of the tournament.Shehzad finished as the second highest run-getter in the competition and Jamshed the third, but the batsman who made the most impact on the final was Razzaq. He started the 18th over on 28 off 15 deliveries, and clubbed four sixes and three fours in the final three overs to finish on 71 off 29. Lahore looted 57 in that spell to amass 221 against a Karachi side that had easily hunted down 210 in the semi-finals.Karachi made a spirited start to the chase, with two sixes in the first over showing their intent. They sprinted to 53 for 1 in the fifth over before losing Shahzaib Hasan, the tournament’s most successful batsman and another youngster who came into prominence during last year’s World Twenty20. Still, Fawad Alam and Shahid Afridi, who played crucial roles in the semi-final win on Friday, remained and they powered Karachi to 88 for 3 in nine overs.Fast bowler Wahab Riaz, who recently took five wickets on Test debut at The Oval, then provided the breakthrough, removing Alam in an over which cost only two runs. Much depended on Afridi now, a man who bludgeoned runs at a strike-rate of 216 through the competition. He wasn’t giving up – even with the asking rate beyond 14 – and blasted two sixes and three fours in a two-over spell that yielded 42 runs and had Karachi hoping again. The match was effectively finished in the 16th over when a slower ball from Waqas Ahmed bowled Afridi. From 151 from 7, and all their main batsmen dismissed, Karachi’s chances evaporated and they were finally bowled out for 184, handing Lahore their first Twenty20 title.

Wolves: Max Kilman ruled out for the season

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Max Kilman has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

What’s the latest?

That’s according to the Express and Star, who reported that the centre-back’s season is expected to be cut short after he suffered an ankle injury in training ahead of their clash against Brighton at Molineux this afternoon.

The 24-year-old had missed the trip to Burnley last weekend but it has now been confirmed that the injury will keep him out for Wolves’ five remaining Premier League matches of the current campaign.

It’s a gutting blow for the defender, who has been a colossus at the back for the West Midlands outfit this term, making 34 appearances across all competitions whilst contributing to ten league clean sheets.

Lage will be fuming

Wolves manager Bruno Lage has fully unleashed the centre-back this term after his predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo handed Kilman 18 league appearances last term and just a combined four in the two top-flight seasons prior to 2020/21.

The Englishman has been a major contributor to his team’s excellent defensive record, with only Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea conceding fewer league goals than their 29 in the Premier League.

To illustrate Kilman’s importance at Molineux, he ranks in the top four in Lage’s squad for minutes played, interceptions per match and aerial duels won, as per WhoScored.

Moreover, the defender’s form has seen him tipped for an England call-up, although Gareth Southgate left the 24-year-old out of his last Three Lions squad.

Kilman was missed last weekend as his side lost 1-0 to Burnley and there may be concerns going into today’s match against the Seagulls as to whether or not Willy Boly can deputise efficiently.

Securing European football is still very much a possibility for Lage’s team, who sit just three points behind seventh-placed West Ham whilst also having a game in hand.

With Liverpool winning the Carabao Cup and the Reds set to face Chelsea in the FA Cup final, with both of those teams set to finish in the top four, seventh place will be enough for a passage to the Europa Conference League.

Therefore, the loss of one of Wolves’ most trusted players will be a tremendous blow for Lage, who will surely be fuming over this stroke of bad luck.

Newcastle must sign Lucas Paqueta

Eddie Howe enjoyed a fantastic January transfer window with Newcastle United as he brought in a number of quality additions to his side.

Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Matt Targett, Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes all came through the door and have played a part in the club’s sensational form since the turn of the year.

Since the 1st of January, Liverpool are the only team with more Premier League points than the Magpies and this highlights the phenomenal impact their work in the market has had on the team – along with Howe’s coaching on the training pitch.

With survival almost secured, as they sit 15 points clear of the drop with five games left, focus can start to turn to next season and what the head coach will want to do in the next window.

One player the club have already been linked with a swoop for is Lyon’s central midfielder Lucas Paqueta, as the Toon are reportedly set to battle Arsenal for his signature.

Imagine him & Bruno

PIF and Howe must ensure that they can get this deal over the line as they can seal a terrifying midfield duo by reuniting Paqueta and Bruno Guimaraes.

The pair have played together 47 times for Lyon and Brazil in their careers to date and this shows that they would already have a relationship on the pitch. They would not need time to adjust to each other’s style of play and would be able to instantly connect at the start of 2022/23, which will allow them to hit the ground running as a first-choice pairing for Howe.

Paqueta’s form in Ligue 1 this season suggests that he will be able to make a huge impact on the team. Talent scout Jacek Kulig went as far as to describe him as a “pure joy to watch” earlier this year and his statistics back that up as he has averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.12 in Ligue 1 – scoring eight goals and providing five assists from midfield.

Meanwhile, Magpies fans already know what a joy Guimaraes is to watch as he has been in fantastic form since arriving in England. He has averaged a sublime SofaScore rating of 7.16 in the Premier League as he has produced three goals and one assist in six starts for Howe.

Now, imagine both of them consistently turning in exciting, brilliant, displays in the middle of the park together as they score and assist goals! It is a mouth-watering prospect for the Toon faithful and a terrifying one for any opposition team…

Ricardo Henriques explicou.

– Iremos chegar a Sucre apenas no dia do jogo.
